Welcome to X en Provenance, a blog about the collection and analysis of provenance.  Provenance is the history of an object and can be used to answer questions such as:  When was this object created?  Was there more than one owner of this object?  When was the last time this object was in France?

In the digital domain we have a different definition for “object” than that found in the physical world.  In the PASS group, we define an object to be from a well-defined set of operating system artifacts.  Currently an object can be a file, a process, or a pipe.
